Founded in 2007, The Minnesota Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) is part of America's largest Islamic civil liberties and advocacy group, with over35 offices and chapters nationwide. Our mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding. The demand for our services has grown tremendously in the past few years.

CAIR-MN works with our clients and communities, interfaith, social justice and labor networks to advocate, educate and build coalitions that persist for justice and mutual understanding. We lead the fight against Islamophobia and work to dismantle and change systems that foster discrimination.

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

CAIR-Minnesota seeks an experienced community engagement specialist for our new Greater Minnesota Community Engagement Coordinator position. The coordinator to help support and work with a growing and dynamic team. Working under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Deputy Director, the coordinator will be responsible for building and maintaining community resiliency in Greater Minnesota. The position will be based in St Cloud Minnesota and will oversee other staff and contracted positions to engage in statewide programs. 

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with community leaders in Greater Minnesota to develop and implement strategies to create more resilient communities against racism and targeted hate. 
  • Develop and support allies and coalitions tables to address the rise in Islamophobia in the area.
  • Host Leadership briefing with leaders of the area 
  • Expand leadership capacity within the Greater Minnesota Muslim Community and oversee the Leaderfull-Training in Greater Minnesota. 
  • Expand increased awareness of legal and advocacy services by CAIR-MN to wider greater Minnesota communities. Connect Greater Minnesota legal professionals with CAIR-MN.
  • Increase civic engagement in Greater Minnesota by expanding on proven strategies developed.
  • Create an interfaith response network for rural communities in proactively addressing the rise of hate groups and hate crimes.   
  • Promote CAIR-MN’s training program with local employers and key companies as well as non-profit organizations, schools, city and county employees and health professionals.   
  • Other duties may be assigned 

All CAIR-MN staff, whether permanent or temporary, are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, assisting with office management and cleanup, assisting with special projects such as conferences, conventions, mass mailing, and other CAIR-MN events. CAIR-MN employees may be asked to participate in events outside of normal business hours as instructed by CAIR-MN Management.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

  •                    Must be able to Speak Somali 
  •                    Bachelor degree + 
  •                    Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience 
  •                    Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products) 
  •                    Proficiency with web-based applications is essential 
  •                    Operations, logistics, and/or project management experience is highly recommended 
  •                    Experience working in a school setting or for State offices is a plus 
  •                    Experience working in a mosque setting is also a plus 
  •                    Superior interpersonal skills, collaboration skills, and attention to detail 
  •                    Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 
  •                    Team player with demonstrated leadership skills Demonstrated ability to work well in fast-paced team environment with a high degree of flexibility 

COMPENSATION

  • Commensurate with education and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Depends on  Qualification per year
